Chelsea – Valencia serves up some entertainment..
Chelsea and Valencia served up a very highlight-filled game in this past matchday. There were a lot of misses – yes Maxi Lopez and Rodrigo, we are looking at you- and lots of good goalkeeping – not you Kepa. Ultimately, it was a very fun game for the neutrals. For Chelsea, beat Lille on the final match day and qualify. For Valencia, beat Ajax away from home and qualify as winners. Very easy eh?
Real Madrid held at the Bernabeu..
For long periods of this game, Real Madrid had the upper hand. They controlled the game superbly and when they went two goals up in the 79th minute, it looked like they had carried managed the game really well and deserved the victory. Four minutes later, they had conceded two goals and ultimately went home with one point. Credit to Paris St. Germain for their very positive reaction –as they did not have anything to lose after going two goals down- and the timely introduction of Neymar who gave them a huge bump in quality going forward. For Real Madrid, with all their experience in this competition, they were very poor in seeing out this game and it cost them dearly. Both teams have qualified. However, there needs to be huge improvement for both teams when the crunch stages come knocking.
Lewandowski cannot stop scoring..
The best forward in the world right about now – not up for debate here. He scored 4 goals in 14 minutes – all kinds of goals. With all the issues that have happened in Bayern Munich of late, Robert Lewandowski and Serge Gnabry have been the only standout players for the big German club. If the team wants to go all the way in the Champions League this season, the big bad Polish striker may need to keep up his outrageous goalscoring form.
Inter Milan – and Lukaku – rise from the dead..
Inter Milan messed up- in a big way – in the last match day and knew that they could not mess up this time. Slavia Prague did not make it easy for them. Enter Romelu Lukaku. His partnership with Lautauro Martinez keeps getting better and better and in this game, the partnership just looked like it had fully matured. Lukaku looked like a striker reborn getting two goals and two assists – I know, I know, it is just Slavia Prague, but a goal is a goal, right? Now, all Inter needs to do is beat Barcelona in gameweek VI. It is as simple as that.
Tottenham rise from the ashes..
All is well in Tottenham right now. After winning their first away game since January in the Premier League, they followed it up with a comeback win over Olympiacos. The ball boy even had a hand in one of the goals. Tottenham eventually finishes second behind Bayern Munich. Again, everything is good in Tottenham.
