Despite the fact Manchester United have confirmed the signing of Paul Pogba, less than 48 hours after beating Leicester City in the Community Shield, it’s Manchester City who remain the bookmakers’ favourites to win the 2016-17 Premier League title.

The Citizens have done some excellent business this summer – securing the signings of Ilkay Gundogan, Nolito and Leroy Sane, in particular – and then, of course, there’s the Pep Guardiola factor.

The revered Catalan coach appears to be happy with the players City have signed over recent weeks – in total, the club have spent over £100 million so far this summer as John Stones completed his big-money move to the Etihad Stadium from Everton this week.

However, the Daily Mail understand Guardiola is looking to get rid of the deadwood in his squad before the transfer window closes this summer.

And there are four players in particular he’s “desperate” to find buyers for.

WILFRIED BONY

With Sergio Aguero already part of the Man City squad, Wilfried Bony must have known he’d rarely play at the Etihad Stadium.

The Ivory Coast international, who scored 26 league goals in 54 appearances for Swansea City prior to joining the Citizens, would be an excellent signing for most Premier League clubs.

The Swans are reportedly keen to bring him back to the Liberty Stadium.

SAMIR NASRI

That Guardiola wants to offload Samir Nasri should come as little surprise: the French midfielder is nothing like your typical ‘Guardiola player’.

The 29-year-old has failed to perform at a consistent level for several years now and a move away from Manchester could be what he requires to resurrect his career.

JESUS NAVAS

By splashing out £37 million on Sane from Schalke, this was a clear indication that Guardiola doesn’t rate Jesus Navas particularly highly.

The Spaniard is a bit of a one-trick pony – all pace but little end-product – and it wouldn’t come as a huge surprise if he’s back plying his trade in La Liga next month.

ELIAQUIM MANGALA

Eliaquim Mangala is the most expensive defender in Premier League history – at least until Stones officially signs for City – but you’d never have guessed it based on his performances.

The 25-year-old has been in England for two seasons now but has failed to progress in the manner City coaches expected he would when he signed from Porto in 2014.

City are poised to take a significant loss on the Frenchman, but that’s unlikely to concern Guardiola.
