Manchester City back on top..

So, Manchester City is back on top of the Premier League table. No disrespect to Cardiff City but this is not necessarily the type of game in which the absence of Sergio Aguero would have been felt. It was a disappointing performance by Cardiff City especially considering the fact that they are seriously battling their way to stay in the League. Liverpool kept the race to the title alive after winning a very key game against Tottenham Hotspur over the weekend, albeit playing some very poor football and being extremely lucky with the winner. The coming weeks will be a true test of Manchester City’s mettle and we still wait to see if they can win the quadruple this season.

Chelsea win as race for the Champions League spots gets more tense..

Over the weekend (against Cardiff), Chelsea was very lucky to get all three points as there was an offside goal scored by Cesar Azpilicueta and a red card that should have been given to Rudiger for his professional foul. On Wednesday, Chelsea ensured that the performance that occurred over the weekend would not repeat itself. Olivier Giroud scored his first Premier League goal in 2019 and Eden Hazard continued being his brilliant best. Due to Manchester United’s loss on Tuesday to Wolverampton Wanderers (Manchester United was also poor this weekend but still managed to win) and Chelsea’s and Tottenham’s wins against Brighton and Crystal Palace respectively, Manchester United sits in 6th. It gets more tense.

Juventus continue to win without Ronaldo..

Ronald is still injured, Moise Kean has also been getting a run of games and Juventus continue winning. Against the top sides in Europe in the Champions League, Ronaldo’s absence may be a bit more obvious as the top sides are less forgiving.

AC Milan drop points as Inter Milan go above..

The Serie A title race seems to have been sealed but it seems that the race for the last two Champions League slots will be keenly contested by the two clubs based in Milan. Over the two recent league games, AC Milan lost to Sampdoria ( I am looking at you Gianluigi Donnarumma) and drew to an Udinese side that has been playing poorly. Inter Milan has not been great, what with their issues with Mauro Icardi and all, but are currently in third position with four points ahead of their town rivals. With no European distractions, all eggs are in the ‘qualify for the Champions League via the Serie A standings’ basket now.

Real Madrid show signs of frailty..

Considering the fact that Real Madrid is under new management (or old management, depending on who is asking), the performances still reek of the old regime. Against Huesca over the weekend, the team managed to still get away with a win even after conceding two goals. Real Madrid played at the Bernabeu by the way. At the Mestalla, they managed to lose by a single goal margin. It could have been a whole lot worse. This seems to need some form of rejuvenation as the younger players do not seem to have much quality and the older players that possess better qualities seem to be.. old. There is a lot of work to be done by Zidane and his team.
