Tottenham away blues continues..

If you have seen this headline before, it is probably because you saw it last week. Something has to be going sideways at Tottenham. Obviously, losing your captain very early on and conceding in the process – Lloris had an awkward fall that ‘broke’ his arm and led to the goal- can be very demoralizing but with the quality of players that they have, that is still not an excuse. Tottenham has lost 17 games this year. That is a lot of games to lose and Pochettino needs to go back to the drawing board (literally) to get his players to play for him again.

Manchester City shocked at the Etihad..

It was expected to be a tough game with Manchester City ultimately sealing the win. Not a lot of people saw this coming. To make issues even worse, Wolves could have buried the game long before they got their goals. Some of the passing at the back for Manchester City was absolutely shocking. It is also no coincidence that creativity was lacking for Manchester City in their first game without Kevin De Bruyne due to injury. Credit to the Wolves coach for sticking to his methods and not getting deterred when results were not going his team’s way. For Guardiola, losing at the Etihad to a team that had won only one game is not stuff of Champions. It is still early days but things have to change sooner rather than later because the leaders – Liverpool – are slowly pulling away.

Derby D’Italia to remember..

Conte’s Inter Milan hosted Juventus over the weekend and had the upper hand for a good part of the first half. Ultimately, the quality of Juventus shone through with goals from Dybala and Higuain. Conte’s Inter Milan finally gets defeated in the Serie A. The thing about Conte’s Inter Milan is that there is a lot of energy and running but very little creativity. Once Sensi hobbled off the pitch, all the spark from Inter disappeared almost instantly. There is still work to be done. For Sarri and Juventus, they are still the team to beat as the quality in every area of the pitch dwarfs almost every other team’s. Surprisingly, one still gets the sense that the best is still yet to come from this Juventus team.

Real Madrid maintain top spot after slight scare..

Real Madrid hosted Granada over the weekend, a team that has beaten Barcelona this season. Real Madrid bossed most of the game but conceded very flimsy goals and were on the ropes before James Rodriguez scored a crucial goal to make it 4-2. Real Madrid, still unbeaten, is two points ahead of Barcelona, who has already lost twice this season. The ‘El Clasico’ is on the 26th of October. Mark your calendars.

Manchester United cannot score, hence cannot win..

Manchester United is in a relegation battle. This is not a joke. This is very possible especially considering the fact that it is very difficult to determine where goals that would win games for Manchester United would come from. Against Newcastle United, they found it so difficult to create anything worthwhile. Newcastle United, poor as they have been this season, looked like a very comfortable side at the back and were looking to break.  The goal finally came from a well-worked counter attack, 18 minutes from time. Manchester United is closer to Newcastle United on the table than the top six. Next up: Liverpool at Old Trafford. Lose, and Ole may not be at the wheel anymore.
