Who are the Favorites?
Here are the teams that are heading the semi-finals and why each of them has the chance of winning this year’s Champions League.
Manchester City
Man City fans are hopeful that this may be the year that the club will finally get a Champions League Title. To some, it’s simply their time but there’s more to it than that. We’ve seen Manchester City dominating the English Premier League a few times now as they have won these five teams.
The team has been getting so close to getting the Champions League title over the last few years. Last year, they even had an almost perfect campaign with just one draw against Porto in the group stage. However, Chelsea was still able to beat them in the final after Kai Havertz scored the last goal.
Last year’s happening may be a great motivation for the team to make a statement this season. Man City has a solid midfield lineup with names like Fenandinho, Bernardo Silva, Oscar Bobb, Rodri, Cole Palmer, and Kevin De Bruyne.
The team also has Pep Guardiola as the manager and we already know how well he can manage a team. He’s been coaching football for 13 years now and he has a solid portfolio with three La Liga titles and another three EPL titles.
It will be a huge win if Manchester City does it this season. Some would even say that the team is already desperate to win the European Crown and it’s perfectly understandable. They were so close to winning last year and this might have motivated the team to dominate this season and beat the other favorite team to win which is Liverpool.
Liverpool
If Liverpool wins this year, it will be their 7th Champions League title. Liverpool has also been doing well in both the Champions League and the EPL. As of now, the team doesn’t have what many would consider a major defeat or slip-up in both leagues.
What Liverpool has is a solid front trio with Mohamed Salah, Sadio Mane, and Diogo Jota who already scored 59 goals in total. The team also has a stable defense lineup with the likes of Virgil van Dijk, Andrew Robertson, Joel Matip, and Trent Alexander-Arnold.
The club’s first defeat happened in November 2021 but since then, they have had 23 wins, five draws, and only two defeats in both leagues. The losses they have experienced so far have not deeply impacted their standings.
Know that Liverpool is in four tournaments this year: the EPL, the Champions League, the FA Cup, and the Carabao Cup or the League Cup. Team manager, Jurgen Klopp is surely feeling a lot of pressure with all that but the team is doing well, overall.
That said, the team is attempting to make something impossible and historical happen. If they will all four competitions, it will be the first time that a men’s football club in England will win three major domestic events including the European crown.
